Costa Tropical Spain

The Costa Tropical de Granada is located on the south coast of Spain in the Province of Granada between the Costa del Sol and Almeria. Not as well known as its neighbouring coastal areas it has an enviable climate which has been rated as amongst the healthiest in the world.

The Costa Tropical has:

The Costa Tropical was originally known as the Costa de Granada and more recently has been rebranded as the Costa Tropical to reflect its unique attributes and is now also known by many Spanish as the Costa Tropical de Granada.

The area is supplied by numerous underground rivers and springs which carry the rain from the mountains to the coast and maintains the area refreshingly green and lush. A combination of the unique sub tropical climate and the natural irrigation helps support the cultivation of tropical fruits which you will not find elsewhere in Europe including the chirimoya (custard apple), mangos. Other fruits you will find here include bananas, avocados, mandarins, oranges and lemons.

The main town in the coastal area south of Granada is Motril which is a typical Spanish working town of about 60,000 people and located about 2 km inland from the sea. Along the coast there are a number of popular towns and tourist resorts which attract many Spanish tourists every summer. The principal of these are Almunecar (Almuñecar), La Herradura and Salobrena which have residential populations of 15,000 (Salobrena) to about 25,000 (Almunecar).
